Junk Drawer Solution: Stop Dropping Your Kitchen Towels

If you’ve got an oven at home, it’s pretty likely to have a handle that spans the entire front. Odds are also pretty good that you  hang hand towels from that bar. It’s convenient, so why not? Well, if you’re like me, you are constantly knocking the towels off the bar to what is arguably the dirtiest part of the floor: the spot directly in front of the stove/oven. Gross.

I’d been planning to do something about this plague for a while. There are those cute novelty towels that have crocheted loops with buttons, but ours disappeared and frankly I never liked them (for no particular reason). Something with magnets? I wasn’t sure. I definitely had zero desire to get out the sewing machine.

Then today, while cleaning, I inexplicably found a partial set of hair elastics in with the pot holders and extra towels. I put the elastics around the end of a post where we keep our rubber bands from produce and the like when I was suddenly struck.

Put the towel over the bar, put the hair tie around the towel, fluff out the end a little. It stays put. It’s still loose enough to move around or pull off the handle quickly if need be. Now that I’ve done it, it seems like the most obvious thing in the world. No more dropped towels. I feel so much better already.
